Fortune Favors the Bold.
Have you ever looked at someone famous and successful and thought, “wow, that guy is just a complete dumbass?”It’s not uncommon. The cultural zeitgeist is teeming with personalities who flaunt loud mouths and dormant brains. Jake Paul, Andrew Tate, Clavicular, any of the myriad of insane actors and music artists, hell, the Rizzler is just a fat little kid who makes goofy videos, and yet he’s maintained social relevance far beyond his supposed shelf life. We often think, “I am far more qualified to be successful than these idiots.” Well, you’re half right. Most of the people we share the subway with are indeed more intelligent, capable, and worthy of social recognition. But fortune doesn’t reward on the metrics we assume. Fortune favors the bold, not the prepared.
While you spend your time worrying about making sure your script is perfect before showing it to your mom, some crazy dude has already made 5 shitty short films. And he’s getting better. While you make excuses for not having started your vlog channel, some idiot has had a camera in front of his face since he was 8 years old, and he’s got 10 years of progress on you. The laws of thermodynamics support this. An object at rest remains at rest. An object in motion continues in motion. Crazy people keep moving, and you don’t. That’s why they keep moving forward, and you stay right where you are. History is carried out by the reasonable, but led by the insane.
I remember some comedian’s musings about how the Nazi Party ended up getting started. Hitler probably spent lots of time in bars getting weird looks and getting laughed at by others as he yelled on and on about his insane beliefs and ideas. People called him crazy., which was certainly true. That is, until Hitler happened to run into another crazy fellow on some random corner of the street, who liked what he had to say. Suddenly, Hitler had a follower, and a group. That group traveled in a pair. A pair of people were just a little more convincing than a single person. 2 grew to 4, 4 to 8, and before you know it, the Nazi party led Germany, and almost conquered the entire world. Entropy. That’s the dangerous power of just doing things, the power of being crazy. Success follows behind commitment over time. If you want to live a normal life, do what normal people do. There’s great honor in a reasonable life well lived. But if you want to be one of the greats, take a page out of their book. Be crazy.
